How I Built a Shopify Blog with Claude | Breakdown & How To

If you've ever wanted a blog on your Shopify store but didn't want to pay for another app or touch a line of code, this one's for you. In this breakdown, I'll show you exactly how to build a working blog using your current theme, then use Claude to actually write the articles for you, and finally how to make the whole thing look polished with a couple of dedicated sections.
Building a Blog in Shopify Without Extra Apps or Code
Shopify already ships with everything you need to run a blog. Under Content in your admin, you'll find Blog Posts, and from there you can add a new post directly. The setup is straightforward: give your blog a name, set it to visible, choose a feature image, and drop your content into the body field.
One step people skip that you shouldn't: always fill out the excerpt summary. That's the short blurb that shows up on your blog's grid page and gives readers a reason to click into the full article. Once you've got your first post saved, you can create a dedicated blog (I called mine "News") to keep everything organized, then link it into your site navigation later so visitors can actually find it.
This manual process works fine, and it's worth understanding once. But if you're publishing more than the occasional post, typing out full articles by hand gets old fast.
Writing Blog Content with Claude Instead of by Hand
This is where the real time savings come in. Instead of writing every article from scratch, I connect my Shopify store directly to Claude. In Claude's settings, under Connectors, you can link your Shopify site so Claude has real context about your store.
Once that's connected, you can prompt Claude to draft a blog post based on a topic, and it'll generate content pulled from the actual context of your site rather than generic filler. From there you have two options: review and edit the draft yourself before publishing, which is what I'd recommend for anything going live, or have Claude push it directly into Shopify as a blog article.
I like to give Claude some context up front about how I write and think, so the first draft already sounds closer to my voice. It still gets a pass of editing on my end before it goes out. But going from a blank page to a full draft in a couple of minutes instead of an hour or two is a real difference, especially if you're keeping up a regular publishing schedule.
Adding Polished Blog Sections with Flexi
Shopify's default blog templates are functional, but if you want your articles to actually match the rest of your theme's design, that's where Flexi Sections comes in. It's a library of curated sections you can drop into any theme, including two built specifically for blog content: a blog article title section and a blog article content section.
These let your posts inherit the same layout and visual style as the rest of your site instead of looking like a bolted-on afterthought. If you're also interested in linking products directly inside a blog article and rendering them out below the post, that's a separate workflow I've covered in another video, worth checking out if that's part of your content strategy.

This covers the core idea, but seeing the actual clicks in the admin and the Claude connection in action makes it much easier to follow along. Watch the full video above for the complete walkthrough, from creating your first blog manually through automating the writing process and styling the result.
If you want to add these blog sections to your own theme, you can grab Flexi Sections and try it out for yourself.
