The Ultimate Shopify Landing Page Tutorial | How To

A good Shopify landing page does one job: it takes someone who's already interested and gets them to act on a specific offer, without the noise of your full site pulling their attention elsewhere. After years building landing pages for Shopify Plus clients, the biggest mistake I see is reaching for a page builder app before figuring out the offer itself. Get the offer right first, and the page almost builds itself.

Start With the Offer, Not the Page

Before you touch a single section, decide what you're actually promoting. Is this a single product, or a whole collection? That one decision determines everything downstream, including which discount structure and which page template you'll use.

In Shopify, set this up as a product-based automatic discount so it stacks cleanly with anything else running in your store. Structuring the discount first, then building the page around it, keeps the whole page focused on a single, clear reason to buy right now.

Product Pages vs. Collection Pages

If you're promoting one specific item, build your landing page on a product template. If you're running something broader, like a seasonal sale across a category, a collection template with the discount showcased at the top works better. Trying to force a multi-product promotion onto a single product template (or vice versa) is where a lot of landing pages start to feel cluttered or confusing.

An image banner section at the top of either template is what actually sells the offer. It's the first thing a visitor sees, and it should say exactly what the deal is before they scroll another inch.

Why Build This in Your Own Theme

It's tempting to reach for a dedicated page builder app for this, and clients ask about tools like GemPages or Replo constantly. In practice, that usually adds complexity without adding much real capability. A landing page built directly in your theme loads faster, matches the rest of your site's design automatically, and stays yours permanently. Uninstall a page builder app down the road, and there's a real risk your landing page disappears with it.

Building It Faster With Flexi

Once the product or collection template and the discount are in place, the section-building itself is where a lot of time gets lost. This is where I use Flexi Sections, my own section library, to drop in the promotional banner, product highlight, and comparison-style sections without hand-coding each one from scratch. It's the same theme-native approach as the rest of this tutorial, just faster to assemble.

The full video walks through building both a product-based and a collection-based landing page end to end, including the exact discount setup and three Flexi sections along the way. If you're setting up a promotion in Shopify, it's worth watching in full before you start building.
